Weed free roadside

As the latest addition to the industry-leading portfolio of herbicide products offered by Corteva Agriscience, Piper® EZ herbicide introduces two modes of action to bareground programs working to conquer weed resistance.

Corteva Agriscience has reached an agreement with Valent U.S.A. LLC to become the exclusive distributor of Piper® EZ herbicide within the United States. Available through authorized Corteva distributors for the 2022 season, Piper EZ is a new suspension concentrate liquid formulation that supports vegetation managers working to achieve total vegetation control (TVC) throughout various application sites, including railroads, roadsides and utility substations.

Piper® EZ herbicide can be used to enhance control of Italian ryegrass as well as other winter annual grasses or invasive weed species.

“Corteva is committed to providing chemistries and solutions that enhance results and program flexibility for our customers,” says John Kalthoff, Marketing Category Lead, Land Management, Corteva Agriscience. “The immediate availability of Piper EZ allows our distribution partners to provide a highly effective preemergence herbicide ahead of the upcoming growing season.”

Recommended for use with ground equipment featuring standard commercial sprayers, applications featuring Piper EZ and tank-mix partners, such as TerraVue® herbicide from Corteva Agriscience, provide months-long residual and postemergence activity after targeted species have emerged earlier in the year.

Powered by Two Modes of Action

Weed resistance is a major issue for TVC programs across the country. New incompatible plant species invade application sites each year and even the most commonly used herbicide products falter in performance over time. This makes the introduction of new modes of action an essential practice for vegetation managers working to achieve bareground results.

Piper EZ is powered by two active ingredients: flumioxazin, a Group 14 herbicide; and pyroxasulfone, a Group 15 herbicide. Together, these chemistries work to improve resistance management and enhance control of winter annual grasses, including Italian ryegrass, as well as a variety of prevalent weed species, including:

  • Wild carrot
  • Marestail
  • Foxtail
  • Black medic
  • Crabgrass
  • Dandelion
  • Common ragweed
  • Pennsylvania smartweed

Controlling and suppressing these problematic species helps release desirable grasses in areas adjacent to TVC sites, reduce soil erosion and lower long-term maintenance costs that are commonly dedicated to increased application rates or mechanical mowing practices. While Piper EZ can be applied alone to treat various application sites, rotating in other chemistries can enhance long-term performance. In fact, tank mixes of Piper EZ are shown to rival results achieved by competitive products for Italian ryegrass control.
