Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer, powered by Optinyte™ technology, maximizes yield by providing unrivaled protection of urea, UAN and liquid manure from nitrogen loss.
The enhanced formulation offers improved handling and a lower use rate compared with previous versions.
Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer delivers maximum profit by extending nitrogen availability during corn’s key growth stages. It works underground, where up to 70% of nitrogen loss can occur through leaching into the ground or denitrification into the atmosphere.
Get the max from any nitrogen source.
Any source of nitrogen is susceptible to loss through leaching or denitrification. Instinct NXTGEN maximizes nitrogen when used with UAN, urea and liquid manure.
Nitrogen when corn needs it.
Corn uses nitrogen in two forms: ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3-). But it prefers ammonium — because that form is more efficient for plants to use and less susceptible to loss.
But nitrate nitrogen can’t help corn if it’s beyond the reach of the plants’ roots during critical growth times. Instinct NXTGEN acts to slow down the bacteria that converts ammonium to nitrate, keeping nitrogen in the ammonium form longer. That means it’s there when corn is ready for it — so the crop can reach its maximum yield potential.
Backed by proof.
Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer, powered by Optinyte™ technology, maximizes yield potential. This is proven by more than 1,000 field trials and university research.
When using Instinct NXTGEN with urea, UAN and liquid manure, farmers and retailers benefit from:*
51% fewer greenhouse gas emissions
16% less nitrogen leaching
28% greater soil retention

Trial Information from Purdue University
Corteva Agriscience worked with Purdue University on several Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer trials during the 2023 season. 13 plots were created to study the impact of Instinct NXTGEN on different nitrogen fertilizers at different application timings. Expand the panels below for an overview of how the plots treated with Instinct NXTGEN performed against the untreated plots.
Yield Impact on Split Applications
The most significant yield differentiation came from the split application treatment test:
The yield for the stabilized split application was 289.5 bu/A, while the unstabilized plot yielded only 279.3 bu/A.
80 pounds of UAN 28% were applied at plant and at about the V4 – V6 sidedress stage on both plots.
One plot received a split rate of Instinct NXTGEN (12oz./A) with each application. The other remained unstabilized.
It’s important to note, the field received heavy rainfall in the weeks after the second application. This shows how important a proven nitrification inhibitor like Instinct NXTGEN is to protect nitrogen in case of unexpected, extreme weather.
Overall Yield Impact
Plots treated with Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer yielded an average of 288.2 bu/A, while plots that did not receive the stabilizer yielded an average of 285.5 bu/A.
Impact on Soil Nitrogen Availability
Throughout the season, Purdue University researchers took soil samples from each trial plot.
Nearly all tests showed more nitrogen in the corn root zone – in both the ammonium and nitrate forms – in plots treated with Instinct NXTGEN versus untreated plots.
Tests were done at four, six and eight weeks from planting, with samples taken from 0”-6”, 6”-12” and 12”-24” depths.
The data from the soil nitrogen tests show Instinct NXTGEN®, powered by Optinyte® technology, offers farmers proven, reliable return. The stabilizer does this by slowing the conversion of ammonium to nitrate, preventing the loss of nitrogen below ground to leaching and denitrification. This benefits the environment and helps increase corn yield in seasons when nitrogen loss is a concern due to factors like weather.
The Bottom Line
Data from the soil nitrogen tests show Instinct NXTGEN®, powered by Optinyte® technology, offers farmers proven, reliable return. The stabilizer does this by slowing the conversion of ammonium to nitrate, preventing the loss of nitrogen below ground to leaching and denitrification. This benefits the environment and helps increase corn yield in seasons when nitrogen loss is a concern due to factors like excess rainfall.
