With soybean planting season arriving, have your customers locked in their weed control program approach?
“Unless your customers know of a lucrative market for weed seed, they’ll want to be implementing a program approach to control weeds,” says Ron Geis, market development specialist, Corteva Agriscience. “Retailers are in a great position to understand local growing conditions and offer herbicides that will fit into a successful weed control program.”
A program approach means starting clean with a burndown, using powerful preemergence herbicides with residual activity and then effective postemergence herbicides that also have residual activity. The program should incorporate herbicides that use multiple effective modes of action for more consistent control and sound resistance management.
1. Burndown: Geis recommends the use of Elevore® herbicide for an effective burndown. The low use rate of 1 ounce per acre makes Elevore an excellent fit in reduced and no-till systems for burndown application before planting.
