How to Control Weeds Early in Soybean Fields

A program approach is the best way to control weeds early in your customers’ soybean fields in spring. The key is to have a solid plan in place with your growers that incorporates multiple modes of action and to have application flexibility so you can adapt and adjust if curveballs (like bad weather) come your way.
A strong weed control program in soybeans starts with a burndown application in early spring. A good option is Elevore® herbicide, which can be applied when soil temperatures reach a few degrees above freezing and up to 14 days before planting soybeans. A thorough burndown will give your farmers a nice, clean slate to start with.
To keep fields weed-free, a preemergence application should follow. Sonic® herbicide is an effective choice that provides two unique modes of action for broad-spectrum control and long-lasting residual — from four to 10 weeks depending on the rate selected. Sonic has a labeled application rate of 4 to 7 ounces per acre. The higher the application rate, the longer the residual control. And Sonic has application flexibility from preemergence up to three days postplant.
You can consider tank-mixing Sonic with a partner such as Durango® DMA® herbicide. This will give you one more mode of action to enhance your weed control and prevent the development of herbicide resistance.
